Clermont-Ferrand is a french city, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The city you now live in has a population of 141 569 inhabitants in 2012, in the metropolitan region recorded at the census of 2011. It’s also the prefecture (capital) of the department of Puy-de-Dome.

Clermont-Ferrand is located in the plain of Limagne in the Massif Central and is surrounded by a large industrial area. Your little new town is known for its chain of volcanoes. The Chaîne des Puys surrounding it, including the dormant volcano Puy du Dôme. It is just 10 km from the main city. Furthermore, it is one of the highest mountains, topped with a communication tower. The Puy du Dome is visible from the city.
Clermont-Ferrand hosts the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival. This is one of the most important international short film festivals. For this purpose, people from all over the world visit Clermont and show their short movies . In addition, the city is the headquarter of Michelin, the world-wide tire company which was founded more than 100 years ago.
The most famous part of Clermont-Ferrand is the Place de Jaude. Here stands a large statue of Vercingetorix straddling a warhorse and brandishing a sword. This statue was carved by Frederick Bartholdi, who also created the Statue of Liberty.
History of the Clermont-Ferrand
The fortified castle of Clarus Mons gave its name to the whole city in 848. The small episcopal town of Montferrand was attached in 1731. Clermont became a royal city in 1551 and as a result in 1610 it became the inseparable property of the French crown. On April 15, 1630, the Troyes edict (the first edict of Union) joined the two cities of Clermont and Montferrand.
In the twentieth century, the construction of Michelin factories and gardens of the city shaped the modern city of Mr.Olivier Bianchi. He is the current mayor.
